West - Day Thirty - July 22, 2005

After a leisurely morning, I took a detour down 101 to visit Pinnacles National Monument. While the temperature on the coast was 68, by the time I got to Pinnacles inland, the temp was back up over 90. I went on a 2 mile hike and decided that was enough. Time to get back to the more pleasant coast. I drove up Highway 1 again, stopping in Santa Cruz to walk along the boardwalk and take a ride on the Giant Dipper rollercoaster. From there, it was smooth sailing up through Half Moon Bay and on to San Francisco. The temperature stayed below 70 degrees so I opened the sunroof and windows and enjoyed the breeze and welcoming scent of eucalyptus trees. The fog bank was nowhere in sight so it was a gorgeous afternoon to drive along the coast. I arrived back in San Francisco by 6:30 pm.
